Fried Goldberg is proud to support the Road Ready Foundation and the family behind it
When the unimaginable happens, most people struggle just to get through the next day. But for Alex Bebiak and his family, the loss of their son Jackson in a devastating truck crash led to something more — a mission to help others avoid the same heartbreak.
At Fried Goldberg LLC, we’ve walked this journey with the Bebiak family since the day they contacted us. What started as a wrongful death case became an enduring relationship rooted in trust, advocacy, and now, a shared purpose.
We’re honored to support the Bebiak family and the Road Ready Foundation, a nonprofit created in Jackson’s memory to save lives through crash prevention. The foundation focuses on tire safety and roadside safety education, helping young and experienced drivers understand how proper tire care, awareness, and responsible decisions can prevent tragic crashes and keep families safe on the road.
Jackson’s Story
In February 2023, Jackson Bebiak was headed to the beach with friends for a weekend trip. It was a rainy day on I-10 when the car he was riding in hydroplaned, lost control, and began to slide across the wet pavement. As the vehicle came to rest in the roadway, nearly perpendicular to traffic, a tractor-trailer barreled into it, pushing the car violently into the guardrail.
While some initial blame was placed on the driver of Jackson’s car, the facts told a much deeper story. Our team at Fried Goldberg uncovered critical evidence that shifted the legal landscape of the case and helped the family find justice.
Federal law under CFR § 392.14 requires commercial truck drivers to slow down and use extreme caution in hazardous weather. But a black box download showed the truck driver was going over 70 mph in the moments before impact, which was well above the safe speed for a rain-slick highway.
Even more troubling, the truck had been tailing the car for miles, maintaining a dangerously short following distance. While trucking industry standards call for a minimum 7-second gap on dry roads, the trucker in this case followed at under 3 seconds on wet pavement. These negligent choices tragically cost Jackson his life.
Eventually, the case was resolved for the policy limits of both the trucking company and the driver of Jackson’s vehicle. But for the Bebiak family, that was only the beginning.
Finding Support in the Aftermath of a Tragedy
“Obviously, I needed help after the crash,” said Alex Bebiak, Jackson's father. “Nobody really understands all the work that transpires after you lose a loved one — what’s next, what you have to do while you’re still grieving.”
The Bebiaks connected with Fried Goldberg LLC through a mutual friend: their son Brooks’ basketball coach, who knew trial lawyer Briant Mildenhall. From the first conversation, it was clear this wouldn’t be a typical attorney-client experience.
“At the end of the day, we’ve had a relationship with Fried Goldberg — with Joe Fried and Briant Mildenhall — for over two years,” Alex said. “People don’t always understand, it’s an ongoing relationship. I wasn’t a number. I was a true client. A true priority. And it didn’t just stop after the settlement. We’ve continued to work together.”
That partnership now includes something much bigger: the Road Ready Foundation.
About the Road Ready Foundation
Founded in Jackson’s memory, the Road Ready Foundation is committed to saving lives through crash prevention by educating young and experienced drivers on tire safety and roadside safety.
Their work includes initiatives like the Quarter Test, which teaches drivers how to quickly check tread depth, and Be S.A.F.E.R., a roadside safety awareness campaign. The foundation also promotes the “Three I’s” of tire safety: Inspect, Inflate, and Install — encouraging regular tire checks, proper inflation, and timely replacement to reduce risk.
As the foundation puts it, “The only thing between you and the road are your tires.”
Our Ongoing Commitment
At Fried Goldberg LLC, our attorneys don’t just represent truck crash victims — we stand with them. That means more than just filing motions or winning verdicts. It means showing up, listening deeply, and helping families heal in the long run.
Jackson’s case reminded us, once again, why we do what we do. It’s not about the headlines. It’s about the people. When clients trust us with the most painful chapters of their lives, we honor that trust by fighting for the truth and pushing for lasting change.
That’s why we’re proud to support the Road Ready Foundation and to continue working alongside the Bebiak family in Jackson’s name.
